Oak Street dining room

Board-and-batten panelling taken from a tired off-white to a deep teal, with the wall above kept light.

Panelling and trim

Deep Teal

The dining room before: board-and-batten panelling in a tired off-white
The dining room after: the panelling painted deep teal below a white wall

The job

The brief

The panelling had years of paint built up on it and a few loose battens. The owner wanted a dark colour without the room feeling closed in.

What we did

Loose battens refixed, every joint caulked and the old gloss sanded back for grip. An undercoat, then two coats of deep teal in a satin that wipes clean.

The finish

Two days. The white wall above makes the teal look richer, and the joints are as clean as the day the boards went up.

I was nervous about a dark colour on old panelling. Now it’s the first thing people notice.
